Do you know Bicycle Rear Brake Cables?

Introduction of bicycle rear brake cable

Bicycle rear brake cables are an important part of keeping your bicycle in good working order. They are responsible for connecting the brake pads to the wheel rim, and as such, need to be kept clean and free of any dirt or debris.

There are two types of bicycle rear brake cable:
1. The first type is the V-brake cable. It is made of stainless steel and has a plastic coating. The V-brake cable is compatible with most Shimano and SRAM brakes.
2. The second type is the disc brake cable. It is made of Kevlar and has a metal coating. The disc brake cable is compatible with most Avid, Hayes, and Formula brakes.

How to Install a Bicycle Rear Brake Cable:

Assuming you have a bicycle with rear coaster brakes, the first step is to remove the rear wheel. On the outside of the hub where the spokes come out, there is a cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws and take off the cover. Be careful not to lose the small washer that may fall out. Next, use a chain whip (a tool specifically for removing/installation of bike cassette) to remove the rear cog (the large sprocket). Now that the cog is off, you should see a small nut in the center of the axle. This is what secures your axle in place. Unscrew this nut and pull out your axle. The last part holding your brake cable on is a retaining clip. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry it open and release the brake cable from its housing.

How to Use a Bicycle Rear Brake Cable:

If you're new to biking, or if you've never given much thought to the different parts of a bike, it's important to learn about the rear brake cable. This part of the bike is responsible for slowing down or stopping the bike, so it's crucial that you know how to use it properly. Here are some tips on how to use a bicycle rear brake cable:
1. Familiarize yourself with the parts of the rear brake cable. There are two main parts: the lever and the caliper. The lever is located near the handlebars and is used to activate the brake. The caliper is located near the back wheel and houses the pads that make contact with the wheel when braking.
2. Before you start riding, make sure that both brakes are working properly. To do this, squeeze each lever and check that the corresponding caliper moves freely.
3. When you're ready to ride, apply pressure to the rear brake lever gradually. Don't squeeze it too hard or too suddenly, as this could cause you to lose control of your bike. If done correctly, squeezing the lever should cause the back wheel to slow down or stop.
4. Practice using your rear brake in different situations so that you're comfortable with its response time and how much pressure is needed to stop effectively. For example, try braking while riding downhill or around corners.
