How to adjust the mountain bicycle shift cable?

Preparation tools: hand pliers, 4mm Allen wrench, wire cap, 5mm Allen wrench, shifting cable.

First adjust the rear derailleur. Lower the gear position to the lowest level, fully relax the gear shift cable, and adjust the digital display to the gear position with the larger number. Then turn the pedal to let the rear derailleur change the chain to the smallest chainring, and then remove the sealing screw cap of the front derailleur.

Tighten and lock the cable of the rear derailleur. Let the derailleur stop at the smallest chainring and not fall off the small chainring. Then find the bottom stop screw on the derailleur and adjust this screw so that the screw just hits the bottom stop iron block of the derailleur. In this way, the chain will not fall off the chainring at any speed. (Note: The one with an English letter L on the bottom stop screw means the top stop screw with an H letter)

Then turn the pedal while twisting the shift knob so that the rear derailleur will change the chain to the largest chainring and stop at a position where it will not fall from the chainring. Adjust the other top stop screw (the one with H). Let it just hit the top stop iron block of the derailleur. In this way, the chain will not fall off the chainring at any speed.

After adjusting the rear derailleur, start adjusting the front derailleur. The first step is to locate the working height of the front derailleur on the seat tube. This is a very critical step. Whether the adjustment is good or not will affect the subsequent debugging. Rotate the handle while turning the pedals to make the front derailleur change the chain to the largest chainring. After the plane of the chainring is parallel to the plane of the derailleur, the gap between the tip of the chainring and the derailleur is 3 mm, not too large. , And don’t be too small. This position determines whether the subsequent debugging is smooth or not.

The second step is to adjust the bottom stop. Loosen the lever to change the front derailleur to the smallest chainring, and adjust the rear derailleur to change the chain to the middle chainring. This is to prevent the front derailleur from rubbing against the chain due to changes in the rear derailleur. Then adjust the bottom stop screw of the front derailleur (the one with the letter L) so that the chain of the front derailleur stays in the middle of the front derailleur. Then the bottom stop is adjusted.

The third step is to tighten the wiring and lock it. The fourth step is to adjust the top stop. Change the front derailleur to the largest chainring, and adjust the top stop screw (the one with the letter H) so that the chain is in the middle of the front derailleur. When adjusting, make sure that the rear derailleur is in the middle position of the chainring. After adjusting the front derailleur, you have to change the front derailleur to the smallest chainring and the largest position respectively, and then try whether the top stop and bottom stop of the rear derailleur transmission are appropriate. If not, Need to adjust slightly.

Finally, you can also push the shift cable by hand (push it in the direction of the finger dial) to push the shift cable out of the finger dial. You can also pull out the old shift cable and insert the new shift cable.
